Instant Pot rice & grain planner
Plan water amounts and pressure settings for white basmati rice or quinoa in supported Instant Pot Duo sizes.
Use the same cup measure for grain and water. Fractions such as 1 1/2 work.

1.5 cups water
For 1 cups dry white basmati rice in the Instant Pot Duo 6 quart.
- Use the linked manufacturer recipe’s preparation steps and the water amount above. Check the actual contents stay below your pot’s ½-fill line for expanding foods.
- Set Pressure Cook to High for 3 minutes. This is time at pressure; warming up and releasing pressure take additional time. Do not multiply this time by the batch size.
- Let pressure release naturally for at least 10 minutes. Follow your cooker’s manual for grains and wait for the float valve to drop before opening. Do not force the lid.
- Fluff after the pressure has fully released. Check the linked recipe for salt, preparation, and finishing steps.
This planner covers the listed Duo sizes and two specific manufacturer recipes. It does not apply to rice-cooker programs, other Instant Pot models, brown rice, mixed dishes, or pot-in-pot cooking.

Use a specific recipe and supported cooker size
This planner preserves the water ratio and pressure time from two manufacturer recipes: white basmati rice and quinoa. It checks the usual liquid minimum for the selected Duo size and limits batch sizes. Larger quantities change the water amount, not the number of minutes set for pressure cooking.
Worked example
For the listed white basmati method, one cup of dry rice uses 1½ cups water with three minutes on High Pressure. The recipe includes a natural-release rest, and pressurization takes additional time. A batch below the selected model’s usual water minimum is flagged instead of automatically adding more water.
Can I use it for brown rice or a rice-cooker program?
Those methods are not included. Rice varieties and appliances use different instructions. Follow a manufacturer recipe for your grain and model, keep expanding foods below the actual half-fill line, and follow the manual for pressure release.
